Report: Manchester United to meet with Barcelona, Pedro this weekend in hopes of closing deal

Maybe this is the big mystery signing.

Manchester United, linked with a host of attacking players in light of manager Louis van Gaal's assertion that the club will sign a mystery player before the transfer window closes, will reportedly meet with Barcelona winger Pedro this weekend to seal the deal.

United, who has already made big waves in the market this summer, will meet with both the Spanish club and the player himself in San Francisco, where the two teams are set to meet Saturday for a friendly match, according to ESPN FC.

The report adds that the Red Devils are hoping to complete the signing of the diminutive attacker by middle of next week.

Barcelona's public statements over the past week have indicated that they are resigned to losing Pedro, who wants more regular first-team football, despite manager Luis Enrique's insistence that the 27-year-old stay as a back-up to their stellar attacking trident of Leo Messi, Neymar, and Luis Suarez.

His United counterpart Louis van Gaal sees Pedro as the ideal type of wide-player in his system, despite some slight reservations about the player's pace.

Though Pedro featured in 35 La Liga matches last season, he played 90 minutes on just eight occasions. With the Holy Trinity of Messi, Neymar, and Suarez firmly ensconced ahead of him in the pecking order at the Camp Nou, that number isn't likely to improve any time soon.
