Mike Hoffman isn't asking for the moon, he's simply asking the Ottawa Senators to pay him what he thinks is fair.
The restricted free agent, set to attend an arbitration hearing Thursday, is reportedly seeking $3.4 million on his next deal with the Senators, according to Tim Wharnsby of CBC.
For its part, the club is offering $1.75 million.
Hoffman's ask isn't unreasonable by any stretch. The 24-year-old recorded 27 goals and 48 points in 79 games for the Senators in 2014-15, helping drive possession with an even strength Corsi rating of 51.7.
Still, the fifth-round pick from the 2009 NHL Draft has only 108 games under his belt, and the Senators clearly want to see more before committing long term.
Failing an agreement prior to the arbitrator's decision, the Senators are lined up for a team-friendly deal, with Hoffman looking to prove his true worth in 2015-16.
