Flyers GM Hextall in no hurry to sign Brayden Schenn
Philadelphia Flyers general manager Ron Hextall has been busy this week locking up Sean Couturier and Jakub Voracek to long-term deals, but he isn't as eager to sign forward Brayden Schenn.
"I don't anticipate signing Brayden, which never means that you're not going to but it's not something we'll actively pursue," Hextall told Tom Dougherty of CSNPhilly.com. "We'll wait and see how the year goes and probably talk at some point during the year or next summer."
Schenn will become a restricted free agent at the end of the 2015-16 season, and with Couturier set to make an extra $2.58 million and Voracek an additional $4 million a year from now, Hextall plans to wait before committing to the centerman.
"(It's) not that we wouldn't like to get him signed, but probably (want to) get him another year to see where things flush out," Hextall said. "I've spoken with Brayden's agent a number of times over the summer about different things and the subject's never come up. It's not something we're in a hurry to do and I'm assuming they feel the same way."
The 25-year-old, set to make $2.5 million next season, recorded a career-high 47 points in his second straight 82-game campaign.
