Mayweather to Rousey: When you can 'make over $300M in 36 minutes,' then call me

Money talks, so Ronda Rousey may need to raise her voice.

Floyd Mayweather fired back at the UFC women's bantamweight champion Thursday, attempting to drop the mic with what amounted to a "check the bank account."

"I've yet to see any MMA fighter, or other boxer, make over $300 million in 36 minutes," Mayweather said on "SportsCenter," referring to his enormous payday from fighting Manny Pacquiao in May. "When she can do that, then call me."

Rousey has been critical of Mayweather for some time, beginning when Mayweather said he didn't know who "he" (Rousey) was last July.

Since then, the war of words has included outsiders speculating on who would win in a fight - some think Rousey could win, some are certain of it, and others don't even give Mayweather a chance - with Rousey saying she doesn't think they'd fight "unless we ended up dating." That's a serious jab - nay, right hook - at Mayweather's history of domestic violence, one she pushed further when she was given the ESPY for Fighter of the Year.

Mayweather doesn't appear fazed having been "beaten by a woman for once," in Rousey's words.

"A while back I didn't know who Ronda Rousey was, so I'm pretty sure she got upset," Mayweather said. "I want to say congratulations to Ronda Rousey and the UFC. You guys have done a tremendous job and I've won probably six or seven ESPYs for Fighter of the Year. And I truly believe she deserves it."

As for Mayweather's financial claims, it's difficult to compare, as the UFC is far less forthcoming with what goes into a fighter's paycheck and international commissions generally don't release fighter salaries. Still, Mayweather's most recent paycheck is substantially more than any UFC fighter could hope to earn in a career, given the current economics of the sport.

Mayweather is set for the final fight of his career on Sept. 12, when he'll face Andre Berto in what is a multi-million dollar layup in the eyes of oddsmakers. Rousey, meanwhile, is set for a third bout with Miesha Tate, one that the UFC could put on a supercard to try to set an attendance record at AT&T Stadium in Dallas.
