Ducks lock up Jakob Silfverberg with 4-year contract worth reported $15M
The Anaheim Ducks have signed restricted free agent Jakob Silfverberg to a four-year contract extension, the team announced Friday.
Terms of the deal weren't disclosed by the club, but multiple reports suggest Silfverberg will earn $15 million throughout the life of the deal, working out to an annual cap hit of $3.75 million.
The key asset in return from the Bobby Ryan trade, Silfverberg registered a career-high 39 points last season and emerged as an elite defensive forward playing on the second line with Ryan Kesler.
Perhaps his best work came in the postseason, where he contributed offensively at better than a point-per-game pace, netting four goals and 14 assists.
The deal, though not staggering, launches Silfverberg firmly into the team's financial core. Only Ryan Getzlaf, Corey Perry, Cam Fowler, and Kesler will earn more next season on Bob Murray's enviably clean payroll.
He made $850,500 last year in the final season of his entry-level agreement.
Carl Hagelin, whom Murray acquired at the draft in a deal that sent Emerson Etem to the New York Rangers, is now the last restricted free agent on the roster without a deal.
