Report: Pelicans make offer to Jason Terry

The New Orleans Pelicans are willing to take flight with The Jet next season, extending an offer to unrestricted free agent Jason Terry, according to Mark Berman of FOX 26 Sports.

Terry was previously reported to be nearing a deal to return to the Houston Rockets, but according to Berman, the 37-year-old considers their offer "insufficient."

Terry was a key component of Houston's deep 2014-15 postseason run, starting all 17 games while averaging 9.2 points and 2.8 assists on 42.5 percent shooting and 35.4 percent from 3-point range.

The Rockets recently traded for point guard Ty Lawson from the Denver Nuggets. With Lawson and Patrick Beverley soaking up a majority of minutes at the position, Terry would be used as third-stringer in emergency situations. He's also capable of playing at the two-spot, where 17 percent of his minutes came last season.

New Orleans' backcourt is highly susceptible to injury, with both Jrue Holiday and Eric Gordon missing significant time in recent years. Terry would provide veteran leadership to a roster with only one player over the age of 30 (the newly acquired Kendrick Perkins). He can also be counted on to stay healthy, unlike the Pelicans' current backcourt.

In 1,213 career games, Terry has averaged 16.8 points and 4.8 assists with stellar 38 percent 3-point shooting on five different squads.
