Offensive Line Rankings: 10-1
Offensive Line Rankings
32-21 | 20-11 | 10-1
10. Houston Texans
Pos. | Starter |
---|---|
LT | Duane Brown |
LG | Xavier Su'a-Filo |
C | Ben Jones |
RG | Brandon Brooks |
RT | Derek Newton |
Depth: Jeff Adams, Chad Slade, Bryan Witzmann
- The talent level across Houston's offensive front doesn't necessarily stand out, but sometimes an offensive line's performance is more about cohesion and continuity.
- After so many seasons dominating the line of scrimmage, there's no reason to think this group won't remain one of the league's best in 2015.
- Depth is a serious issue here. A long-term injury to a starter would be disastrous for the offense.
9. Arizona Cardinals
Update: Mike Iupati is expected to miss time early in the season after undergoing surgery to repair his meniscus.
Pos. | Starter |
---|---|
LT | Jared Veldheer |
LG | Mike Iupati |
C | A.Q. Shipley |
RG | Jonathan Cooper |
RT | Bobby Massie |
Depth: D.J. Humphries, Earl Watford, Lyle Sendlein
- Iupati, Arizona's top free-agent addition, joins Veldheer to make the left side incredibly strong heading into 2015.
- The possibility that Cooper finally puts it together and Humphries earns the starting job at right tackle pushes this line's potential off the charts. Massie will be serving a three-game suspension when the season begins.
- Shipley is currently the starting center after signing in the offseason, but the team recently brought Lyle Sendlein back to compete for the job.
8. New Orleans Saints
Pos. | Starter |
---|---|
LT | Terron Armstead |
LG | Tim Lelito |
C | Max Unger |
RG | Jahri Evans |
RT | Zach Strief |
Depth: Andrus Peat, Mike McGlynn, Senio Kelemete, Mike Golic
- Unger is a massive addition to the Saints' interior front, as he's among the NFL's most reliable centers when healthy.
- Armstead and Strief give the offense a strong tandem on the outside, but this unit's success depends on a bounce-back year from six-time Pro Bowl guard Evans.
- Peat was the 13th pick in this year's draft and will eventually develop into a starter. For now, he provides flexibility in case of injuries, as he's able to line up at both tackle and guard.
7. Philadelphia Eagles
Pos. | Starter |
---|---|
LT | Jason Peters |
LG | Allen Barbre |
C | Jason Kelce |
RG | Andrew Gardner |
RT | Lane Johnson |
Depth: John Moffitt, Matt Tobin, Josh Andrews
- Losing Evan Mathis hurts, but the offensive line should continue to pave the way for a strong Eagles running game.
- Don't overlook the advantage the Eagles offense can create over its opponents in both run- and pass-blocking as a result of its uptempo attack.
- Johnson missed the first four games of 2014 due to a suspension, but came back strong and established himself as one of the best right tackles in the game.
6. Pittsburgh Steelers
Update: Maurkice Pouncey will miss a significant portion of the season after suffering a serious ankle injury.
Pos. | Starter |
---|---|
LT | Kelvin Beachum |
LG | Ramon Foster |
C | Maurkice Pouncey |
RG | David DeCastro |
RT | Marcus Gilbert |
Depth: Mike Adams, Cody Wallace, Miles Dieffenbach
- The Steelers don't seem to get the respect some of the other top units do, but they've built one of the more consistent groups over the last couple seasons.
- Le'Veon Bell will get most of the credit for Pittsburgh's ground game, but Pouncey and DeCastro give the offense a strong tandem to lead the way inside.
- Beachum was a breakout star in 2014, emerging as the club's long-term answer on Ben Roethlisberger's blind side.
5. Cleveland Browns
Pos. | Starter |
---|---|
LT | Joe Thomas |
LG | Joel Bitonio |
C | Alex Mack |
RG | John Greco |
RT | Mitchell Schwartz |
Depth: Cameron Erving, Vinston Painter, Ryan Seymour
- One of the league's best lines sees its leader, Mack, return to the middle. The offense was never the same after losing Mack for the season.
- Thomas will go down as one of the top offensive tackles in NFL history, and Bitonio should build on last season's standout rookie performance.
- Erving was drafted as a safety net, in case Mack leaves in free agency. This season, he'll provide depth at all positions. He's received plenty of reps at guard and tackle in camp.
4. Cincinnati Bengals
Pos. | Starter |
---|---|
LT | Andrew Whitworth |
LG | Clint Boling |
C | Russell Bodine |
RG | Kevin Zeitler |
RT | Andre Smith |
Depth: Cedric Ogbuehi, Jake Fisher, T.J. Johnson
- The Bengals' offensive line was a major reason for Jeremy Hill's second-half breakout last season.
- With highly touted rookies Ogbuehi and Fisher primed to push for starting roles sooner than later, the Bengals boast the NFL's deepest group of tackles.
- Continued development from Boling and Zeitler could bump the unit even higher on this list by season's end.
3. Green Bay Packers
Pos. | Starter |
---|---|
LT | David Bakhtiari |
LG | Josh Sitton |
C | Corey Linsley |
RG | T.J. Lang |
RT | Bryan Bulaga |
Depth: Don Barclay, JC Tretter, Jeremy Vujnovich
- While the Packers have a decent group of run-blockers up front, the passing game is where the offensive line really shines.
- Sitton and Lang give Green Bay one of the best guard tandems in the league, and Bulaga is arguably the top right tackle.
- Linsley was a revelation last year. Forced into action due to injury, the first-year center held his own, and was recognized in the offseason as one of Pro Football Focus's secret superstars.
2. Baltimore Ravens
Pos. | Starter |
---|---|
LT | Eugene Monroe |
LG | Kelechi Osemele |
C | Jeremy Zuttah |
RG | Marshal Yanda |
RT | Ricky Wagner |
Depth: James Hurst, John Urschel, Jah Reid
- The Ravens' offensive line helped Justin Forsett put together a breakout season after spending his prior campaigns as a backup.
- There isn't a more productive run-blocking guard tandem than Osemele and Yanda.
- Monroe should be better this season, after knee and ankle injuries hampered his play in 2014.
1. Dallas Cowboys
Pos. | Starter |
---|---|
LT | Tyron Smith |
LG | Ronald Leary |
C | Travis Frederick |
RG | Zack Martin |
RT | Doug Free |
Depth: La'el Collins, Chaz Green, Mackenzy Bernadeau
- No offensive line in the NFL boasts the combination of talent and depth the Cowboys have put together across the board.
- With top talents in Smith, Frederick, and Martin, this group can turn an average running back into a 1,400-yard rusher.
- Collins was a first-round talent the Cowboys managed to land as an undrafted free agent. Leary is dealing with a back injury, which could open the door for Collins at left guard.
