Pedro stars in debut, Terry sees red as Chelsea holds off West Brom in wild affair
It's been ugly in the early stages of the season for Chelsea, with red cards, defensive ineptitude, attacking impotence, and - most ugly of all - poor treatment of the club's medical staff.
Jose Mourinho, the man responsible for at least one of those issues - and, as he himself admitted earlier in the week, perhaps more - knew that things needed to be better from the reigning Premier League champions.
Mission accomplished. Sort of.
Chelsea picked up its first win of the new season on Sunday, enduring the pouring rain to claim a scrappy 3-2 victory over West Brom in a contest that saw a little bit of everything.
For the Blues, there was certainly the good: a wonderful debut appearance from Pedro, who scored the opening goal of the match and set up another after being handed a start at the first opportunity since his €30-million move from Barcelona earlier in the week.
Even Cesar Azpilicueta scored; the defensive-minded full-back netting his first-ever Premier League goal, and only second for the club.

There was also a fantastic penalty save, with James Morrison smashing a spot-kick straight down the middle when the contest was still goalless, only to see it crash against the outstretched leg of Thibaut Courtois.
But this being the 2015-16 edition of Chelsea, there was, of course, the bad.
Captain John Terry was shown a red card in the 54th minute for what referee Mark Clattenburg deemed was the veteran defender yanking down West Brom striker Salomon Rondon - though replays suggested otherwise.

With or without Terry, who has now failed to finish consecutive games for the first time as a Chelsea player, the Blues continue to look suspect at the back.
A pair of goals from Morrison - who found the net with a blistering right-footed effort and a flicked header after having missed his early penalty - raised further questions about Chelsea's ability to replicate last season's solidity in defense.
In the end, it was certainly better than the club's opening two matches of the young campaign. A win is a win, after all.
"It was a fantastic performance. I'm not happy with 4 points from 3 matches but I'm happy with the team," Mourinho said after the match.
While that may be a stretch - Chelsea was the better team, but was far from fantastic - at least it was entertaining ...
