Report: Steelers to meet with Michael Vick
The Pittsburgh Steelers appear to be turning to the open market in search of quarterback depth, as veteran free agent Michael Vick is headed to a meeting with the team Tuesday, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Vick, once among the league's most electrifying playmakers, generated little interest upon hitting the free-agent market following his lone season with the New York Jets.
With Steelers backup quarterback Bruce Gradkowski reportedly set to undergo surgery on a dislocated finger suffered in Sunday's preseason game, however, adding another veteran presence behind starter Ben Roethlisberger is imperative.
After a six-year stint with the Atlanta Falcons to start his career, Vick spent five seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles from 2009-2013, before joining the Jets in 2014.
The latter portion of his Falcons career and early seasons in Philadelphia were by far his most productive years, but Vick is certainly the most intriguing veteran talent still available.
If signed, the four-time Pro Bowler would provide an experienced option off the bench, capable of stepping in and running the offense should Roethlisberger be forced to the sideline at any point during the season.
