Report: Steelers' Martavis Bryant facing 4-game suspension for substance abuse violation
Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Martavis Bryant is facing a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
Bryant is appealing the suspension. The Steelers' receiver was suspended for marijuana use, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.
Bryant is the latest Steelers offensive star to open the season under a ban. Star running back Le'Veon Bell will miss the first two games under suspension for a 2014 DUI arrest.
Bryant, the Steelers' fourth-round pick in 2014, burst onto the scene as a rookie, catching 26 passes for 549 and eight touchdowns.
Despite Bryant's immense upside, the Steelers have been hesitant to insert him into their starting lineup opposite Antonio Brown. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger suggested this summer that Bryant remains firmly behind Markus Wheaton on the depth chart.
It appears likely Roethlisberger had caught wind of Bryant's impending suspension.
