- The king stayed the king in July when T.J. Dillashaw completely decimated Renan Barao at UFC on FOX 16. The one-sided shellacking proved Dillashaw's title capture was no fluke, while the loss has Barao contemplating a move up to the featherweight division.
- Following Dillashaw-Barao II, the champion showed interest in facing either Raphael Assuncao or Dominick Cruz. Currently riding a seven-fight winning streak, Assuncao is the last man to hand Dillashaw a loss, and Cruz, a former bantamweight champion in his own right, had his title reign destroyed by injuries.
- Thomas Almeida continued to violently carve a path through the 135-pound weight class at UFC 189 in July with a brutal knockout of Brad Pickett. The 24-year-old Brazilian is 3-0 since debuting in the Octagon in 2014, and 19-0 in his nearly four-year career.
- Marlon Moraes held onto his World Series of Fighting on Aug. 1 with submission victory over Sheymon Moraes at WSOF 22. Moraes is a sterling 8-0 since joining the promotion in 2012.
