- After a rib injury derailed their first fight at UFC 189, featherweight champion Jose Aldo will hopefully defend his belt against interim titlist Conor McGregor in December at UFC 194.
- Instead of slinging fists with Aldo, McGregor faced power wrestler Chad Mendes at UFC 189, surviving some heavy ground-and-pound before icing the Team Alpha Male product with a mere three seconds left in the second round.
- With three failed bids at the featherweight title, Mendes will head back to the drawing board against Frankie Edgar at the TUF 22 Finale in December. Should Edgar emerge victorious, he'll likely be the next challenger for the 145-pound crown.
- It was bizarre and anticlimactic, but Max Holloway continued his winning ways at UFC Fight Night 74 with a TKO victory over Charles Oliveira. Before the bout could really even gain any steam, Oliveira suffered an esophagus injury and had to be taken out of the arena on a stretcher. With a freak injury ultimately deciding the bout, Oliveira will no doubt be looking for a rematch in the future.
