Former Buffalo Bills running back Fred Jackson signed a one-year contract with the Seattle Seahawks, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Jackson was released by the Bills on Aug. 31, after spending the first eight years of his career with the organization.
The veteran running back will be reunited with former Bills teammate Marshawn Lynch upon joining the Seahawks.
Jackson rushed for 541 yards and two touchdowns last season, adding 66 receptions for 501 yards and another touchdown.
Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll indicated Thursday that running back Robert Turbin could miss an extended period of time with a "legitimate" ankle sprain, likely providing the impetus for Jackson's signing.
He'll be used coming off the bench to provide Lynch with some rest, and potentially as a receiver in dual running back formations.
The 34-year-old led the NFL in all-purpose yards during the 2009 season.
