Pujols blames offensive struggles on constant foot pain
Albert Pujols is playing at a level that is far from acceptable to the Los Angeles Angels first baseman.
Forced to struggle through a right foot injury suffered Aug. 28 that has prevented him from taking the field this month, Pujols has found little relief despite resorting to medication to try and numb some of the pain.
"It's sore right now, just sitting here," Pujols told Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times following Friday's game. "I got two injections (of pain medication) last week. They didn't work."
Pujols was adamant two weeks ago regarding a hope to return to first base but has grown increasingly frustrated with how his production has been slowed as he continues to battle the pain.
"The last two weeks, that's not the player I am," Pujols said. "I'm playing hurt. I'm going to play hurt."
Timetable | GP | HR | AVG/OBP/SLG |

"Look at how I'm hitting. I can't drive off my back foot. I'm using my upper body a lot more. That's the reality. But you know me. I'm not looking for excuses. I told you guys two weeks ago, I'm not going to throw in the towel on my team. I'm going to give the best I have."
Despite Pujols' struggles, the Angels remain 4 1/2 games back in the division and two games back of the second wild card.
