Germany's Nowitzki moves into second on EuroBasket's all-time scoring list
Dirk Nowitzki further strengthened his already-iconic stature in FIBA's record books Wednesday.
During Germany's overtime showdown with Italy, the 7-footer from Wurzburg pushed past Greek guard Nikos Galis - who averaged 44.7 points in a EuroBasket 1991 qualification tournament - for second on EuroBasket's all time scoring list.

Galis sat atop the tournament's scoring ranks until France's Tony Parker - of the San Antonio Spurs - surpassed his total (1,030 points) on Monday.
Despite Nowitzki's 14 points and 10 rebounds against Italy, Germany was unable to secure the victory in overtime.
The Dallas Mavericks legend has enjoyed much individual success at EuroBasket in previous years - he was the tourney's top scorer in 2005 (26.1 PPG) and 2007 (24 PPG) and also took home MVP honors in 2005.
