The lawyer for former Los Angeles Kings forward Mike Richards did not enter a plea on behalf of his client, in the first hearing since Richards was charged with possession of a controlled substance.
The case was remanded to Dec. 8. Richards did not appear in court.
Hymie Weinstein, who represents the 30-year-old, said his client could appear at the next hearing.
Richards was arrested at the Canadian border in June and charged following an investigation by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
The Kings terminated his contract after his arrest, and the NHLPA subsequently filed a grievance contesting the move.
