Sabres' Murray remains interested in re-signing Kaleta
The Buffalo Sabres are the only team Patrick Kaleta has ever known. And general manager Tim Murray would like to keep it that way - for the right price.
Murray said Thursday the club remains interested in re-signing the unrestricted free agent, according to the Olean Times Herald's Bill Hoppe:
I have an interest in him, for sure. I guess it depends on what the number is, on what their expectation is. There's a lot of things that go into it. As far as Pat as a guy, as far Pat as a local guy, as far as Pat as the type of player he is to fit in the organization somewhere, I do have interest. That's very vague, I know, and that’s about as specific as I could be.
Clouding the picture is the fact Murray said the club's set at forward. So, if Kaleta does return, it could be on a minor-league deal. Murray says it won't be on a pro tryout contract:
I’m not a fan of PTOs if you’re not going to give a guy a real chance, if you just waste his time or do a favor to an agent and you’re not legitimately interested in signing him if he comes here and has a big camp.
Kaleta had three assists in 42 games last season, and has 27 goals and 27 assists in 348 games for his career.
