DFS: The Slate, Part II - A Detailed Look at the Week 2 Schedule

Tim Heitman / USA TODAY Sports

Here's a breakdown of the late Sunday and Monday slate of games (click here for Part I; all times ET):

Miami Dolphins at Jacksonville Jaguars, 4:05 p.m.

Line: Dolphins -6 (opened at -6)
O/U: 42 (opened at 41 1/2)
Weather: Partly Clouds, 85 F; E wind @ 8 mph

Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill wasn't at his best in a season-opening win over Washington, but he'll have a great chance to atone against an overmatched Jags defense. He isn't quite a slam-dunk GPP play, but can be trusted in cash games. ... RB Lamar Miller looked out of sorts last week and still finished with 75 total yards. He could double that this week in a game tailor-made for his skill set; he's one of the best mid-tier options across all positions. ... WR Jarvis Landry will be a regular cash-game play; his upside is a tick higher this week than most. ... TE Jordan Cameron is a beast when healthy, and should be one of Tannehill's favourite targets; take a chance on him in GPPs, as he's capable of multiple scores against Jacksonville. ... Jaguars QB Blake Bortles should be avoided at all costs against an elite Dolphins defense. ... RB T.J. Yeldon is in a similar situation; volume alone may make him a cheap cash-game punt, but he'll struggle to do much with his carries. ... Throw Week 1 away when assessing Allen Robinson's value moving forward - but this won't be a bounce-back week for him, or any of Jacksonville's other receivers.

Prediction: Dolphins 24, Jaguars 12
DFS MVP: Lamar Miller

Baltimore Ravens at Oakland Raiders, 4:05 p.m.

Line: Ravens -5 (opened at -6)
O/U: 41 1/2 (opened at 43)
Weather: Clear, 91 F; W wind @ 5 mph

The Baltimore passing game will rarely feature as one of the league's top options - and while a matchup with the Raiders is a good one for QB Joe Flacco, he's still only worth cash-game consideration as a semi-punt play. ... RB Justin Forsett, on the other hand, should decimate the Oakland run defense and can do considerable damage in the passing game, as well. This could be Forsett's "Matt Forte" game, featuring in excess of 160 total yards and at least one score. He's the top value play of the week at RB. ... WR Steve Smith is the best option among receivers, but will only see enough volume to reach value if Oakland can stay close. That's a dicey proposition. ... Raiders QB Derek Carr left the season opener with a hand injury, but wasn't performing that well beforehand. The Ravens have one of the top defenses in the league, so keep Carr off your roster. ... RB Latavius Murray is a sneaky value play as the team's unquestioned No. 1 back and as a factor in the pass game; he'll see work no matter the score. Use him in both formats. ... WR Amari Cooper is explosive, but Baltimore is adept at limiting big plays. Take a chance in GPPs if you dare, but stay away in cash games.

Prediction: Ravens 24, Raiders 17
DFS MVP: Justin Forsett

Dallas Cowboys at Philadelphia Eagles, 4:25 p.m.

Line: Eagles -6.5 (opened at -5)
O/U: 54 (opened at 55)
Weather: Partly Cloudy, 75 F; NNE wind @ 9 mph

Cowboys QB Tony Romo shone bright last week despite losing WR Dez Bryant to a foot injury; he could find similar success against the Eagles, though it may take 50 passes for him to return similar value. ... RB Joseph Randle quietly compiled 107 total yards on 19 touches in Week 1; his upside will be stunted by Darren McFadden and Lance Dunbar, but it's reasonable to expect 100+ total yards Sunday. ... Dunbar racked up eight catches in a strict passing-down role, but he has just 39 receptions in 38 career games; don't fall for recency bias, and leave him unrostered. ... It's tough to know who to trust among the receiving corps, but if you're looking for a GPP flier, take Devin Street, who will assume Bryant's role as a deep threat. ... TE Jason Witten looked like his old self with a pair of TD grabs, and should be Romo's target of choice. Witten was a target sponge not long ago, and should see a huge workload - so play him in all formats. ... Eagles QB Sam Bradford systematically dismantled the Falcons in the second half of their Week 1 tilt. He's a great fit for Chip Kelly's fast-paced offense, and should be in for a big day against Big D. ... RB DeMarco Murray will be angling for revenge - and should get it in the form of a touchdown. But don't expect big yardage totals; he simply has too much competition in the backfield. ... Darren Sproles is worth a GPP flier for his versatility alone; he's one of only a handful of players who can make a DFS impact without scoring a TD. ... WR Jordan Matthews should have a huge game against a suspect Dallas defense; expect double-digit catches and a score. ... Nelson Agholor struggled in Week 1, but is still an incredible talent and should bounce back nicely. He's worth a GPP look. ... TE Zach Ertz may be the odd man out in the Philadelphia offense; avoid him until his outlook improves.

Prediction: Philadelphia 33, Dallas 30
DFS MVP: Jordan Matthews

Seattle Seahawks at Green Bay Packers, 8:30 p.m.

Line: Packers -3 (opened at -3)
O/U: 49 (opened at 49)
Weather: Clear, 63 F; S wind @ 5 mph

Seahawks QB Russell Wilson looked ordinary in Week 1, needing 41 attempts to get to 251 passing yards while rushing for just 31 on eight attempts. He faces a much rosier outlook in Green Bay, and could get to either 300 passing yards or 60 rushing yards. That said, he's a bit overpriced this week. ... RB Marshawn Lynch barrelled his way to 104 total yards against St. Louis, and will find the going much easier this week. Beast Mode is a virtual TD lock, and should be rostered in all formats as an elite RB1 at a slightly lower cost than the top options. ... WRs Jermaine Kearse and Doug Baldwin combined for 19 targets, but that won't be the norm this season; Kearse is worth a GPP flier, while Baldwin can be left alone. ... TE Jimmy Graham is still priced like the clear No. 2 fantasy tight end on most sites; he isn't. Stay away until the price comes down. ... Packers QB Aaron Rodgers hasn't thrown for more than 237 yards in six career starts against Seattle. He may break the streak this week, but he isn't worth a roster spot as one of the highest-prices QBs in DFS. ... RB Eddie Lacy will also find it difficult to return value - at least, relative to his salary - and should be avoided. ... If you're looking for any value at the WR spot here, consider James Jones - he's already Rodgers' red-zone go-to option, and is the best bet for a receiving score.

Prediction: Seahawks 27, Packers 24
DFS MVP: Marshawn Lynch

Monday

New York Jets at Indianapolis Colts, 8:30 p.m.

Line: Colts -7 (opened at -7)
O/U: 46 1/2 (opened at 47)
Weather: Dome

Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick wasn't overly busy last week thanks to New York's successful ground attack; his arm will get far more of a workout against the Colts on Monday Night Football, but he can't be trusted against a tough Indy D in a hostile setting. ... RB Chris Ivory stood out last week, and makes for an intriguing speculative cash-game play who should see plenty of work - at least, until Indianapolis pulls away. ... WRs Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker should rack up the targets; Marshall has the tougher defensive assignment, but should overcome that to be the better DFS option. ... Colts QB Andrew Luck finds himself in a similar situation to that of Rodgers - carrying a big-ticket salary and facing a skilled pass defense. Luck is a risky cash-game option, particularly if T.Y. Hilton doesn't suit up. ... RB Frank Gore was all but invisible in Week 1, and likely won't be a workhorse back at any point this season. Leave him unowned. ... Hilton (knee) will likely be a game-time decision; even if he plays, he won't be 100% - and isn't worth the DFS risk. ... WR Andre Johnson gains some value in Hilton's absence, but the real value play could be Donte Moncrief. He and Luck have some chemistry, and with the Colts looking to create some fireworks in their home opener, he's a potential steal. ... Neither Coby Fleener nor Dwayne Allen are particularly safe plays; Fleener is a better cash-game play of the two, while Allen is the stronger GPP option.

Prediction: Colts 27, Jets 20
DFS MVP: Donte Moncrief
