Report: Hawks add DeQuan Jones on training camp deal

Eric P. Mull-USA TODAY Sports

The Atlanta Hawks have signed former Orlando Magic forward DeQuan Jones to a training camp contract, according to Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports.

The Hawks only have 13 guaranteed contracts on the books, so Jones will ostensibly join four others in competing for the team's final two roster spots, even if they appear earmarked for Mike Muscala and Jason Richardson. The Hawks are moderately thin at the forward positions, and so Jones could at least get the opportunity to audition for the rest of the league during the preseason.

Undrafted out of Miami in 2012, Jones quickly landed with the Magic, averaging 3.7 points over 63 games as a rookie. In the time since, he's appeared in summer league action for the Magic, Indiana Pacers, and New Orleans Pelicans, while also joining the Sacramento Kings for training camp in 2013, failing to crack a roster in each case.

Jones spent the 2013-14 season in the D-League, averaging 13.7 points and 4.8 rebounds, while shooting 51.1 percent overall and 40.6 percent from long range. He played in Italy last season, averaging 8.2 points and 3.7 rebounds.
