A wreath was placed at Berra's plaque in Monument Park on Thursday afternoon in his remembrance, while a No. 8 could be seen chalked into the field during the evening ceremony.
Current Yankees catchers Brian McCann, Gary Sanchez, and Austin Romine, along with manager Joe Girardi - a former Yankee backstop himself - laid Berra's number at home plate, in the catcher's box, during an emotional moment of silence.
The Yankees will wear a patch with Berra's number on their uniforms to honor the Hall of Famer for the remainder of the season.
Berra's storied career was headlined by three American League MVP awards, 18 All Star appearances, 13 World Series titles - 10 of which came as a player - and a truckload of Yogi-isms.
Berra passed away on Tuesday at the age of 90.
