Report: NBA looking into confrontation between Knicks' Fisher, Grizzlies' Barnes
A physical confrontation occurred between New York Knicks coach Derek Fisher and Memphis Grizzlies forward Matt Barnes over the weekend, and NBA security is looking into the matter, according to Adrian Wojnarowski and Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports.
Fisher is involved in a relationship with Barnes' estranged wife, the revelation of which prompted Barnes to drive 95 miles to Los Angeles from Santa Barbara, Calif., to confront Fisher on Saturday, the New York Post's Ian Mohr reported earlier Wednesday.
Gloria Govan, who is currently separated from Barnes, stars on the reality show "Basketball Wives L.A."
Fisher took questions from media Wednesday night prior to the Knicks' exhibition game against Brazilian team Paschoalotto/Bauru, but didn't elaborate on what happened.
"Personal and private matters will remain private," Fisher told reporters.
The coach is considering legal action, Yahoo reports, but has not yet filed criminal charges.
Meanwhile, the Grizzlies released a statement Wednesday saying they are aware of the incident involving Barnes, but offered no further comment. Barnes has been fined approximately $250,000 by the NBA since 2011 for various on- and off-court issues.
Fisher missed Knicks' practice on Monday due to what the team called a "personal matter." He had been in California over the weekend to visit his children.
Barnes and Fisher were teammates together with the Lakers from 2010 to 2012. Barnes, 35, will suit up for his eighth NBA team this season with the Grizzlies, while Fisher, 41, enters season two as coach of the Knicks following an 18-year playing career.
