Report: Pelicans sign Jerome Jordan to training camp deal

The New Orleans Pelicans have signed center Jerome Jordan to a training camp deal, reports Marc Spears of Yahoo Sports.

The Pelicans are battling injuries to starting center Omer Asik and backup Alexis Ajinca. Asik will miss three weeks with a strained calf, while Ajinca is out at least a month with a hamstring strain.

New Orleans originally wanted to sign Greg Smith, but a potential deal was nixed after Smith failed his physical.

Instead, the Pelicans reportedly opted for the 7-foot Jordan, who played 44 games with the Brooklyn Nets last season. The plodding giant averaged 3.1 points and 2.4 rebounds in 8.7 minutes per game.

Jordan will likely be cut after the Pelicans regain their health. With the likes of Asik, Ajinca, Kendrick Perkins, and Anthony Davis on the roster, there's no need for a fifth center.
