Jets ride 5-goal barrage to frenetic win over Wild
Drew Stafford scored twice as the Winnipeg Jets exploded for five straight goals en route to a 5-4 victory over the Minnesota Wild on Sunday.
The Jets tallied the markers after Wild forward Jason Zucker opened the scoring with a highlight-reel effort 10 seconds in, setting a franchise record for the fastest goal to start a game.
Bryan Little, Andrew Ladd, and Nikolaj Ehlers answered for the Jets to make it 3-1 before the end of the first period.
Stafford chased Wild goaltender Darcy Kuemper with a marker that gave Winnipeg a three-goal cushion less than a minute into the second period.
The Jets winger registered another, this time on Devan Dubnyk, before the five-minute mark.
Minnesota didn't go away quietly, as captain Mikko Koivu started a three-tally rally with a power-play goal late in the second frame, and Justin Fontaine scored 38 seconds later.
Zach Parise cut the Winnipeg lead to 5-4 midway through the third period, only to have the Jets hold on for their fifth win.
Winnipeg forward Blake Wheeler made history in the game:
The Jets improved to 5-2-1 while the Wild dropped to the same record.
