Cueto 'dedicated' Game 2 to Volquez's dad, family
Johnny Cueto was thinking about his friend Edinson Volquez on Wednesday when he pitched what was quite possibly his best game as a member of the Kansas City Royals.
"It was a very sad day for me yesterday. And there was a lot of focus on my part," he told reporters. "I dedicated that game to Volquez's dad and the whole family, and thank God it turned out that way."
The right-hander delivered a complete-game gem - one night after his teammate pitched the series opener unaware of his father's death - and allowed just one earned run on two hits to the Mets' explosive offense in a 7-1 victory.
"That's why they brought me here for, was to help win a World Series," Cueto said. "And that's what I've worked for and I dedicate this type of outing to my peers, to the organization, to the staff and everyone involved."

The 29-year-old became the American League's first pitcher to throw a complete game in the World Series since Jack Morris in 1991 and the first pitcher in either league to throw a complete game in which two hits or fewer was allowed since Greg Maddux in 1995.
