Connor McDavid out 'long term' with reportedly broken collarbone
The Edmonton Oilers will be without Connor McDavid for the foreseeable future after the rookie phenom suffered an upper-body injury Tuesday.
Near the end of the second period, McDavid burst into the Philadelphia Flyers' zone on a one-on-two rush, and, after getting a shot off, crashed hard into the end boards.
While McDavid initially remained on the bench in the final seconds of the middle frame, his left shoulder was reportedly seen in a sling at intermission, and the Oilers announced he would not return shortly thereafter.
Head coach Todd McLellan declined to offer specifics postgame but revealed McDavid won't be back any time soon.
"I can tell you it’s going to be long term and he'll be out for a while," McLellan said.
The coach added that McDavid was still being evaluated Tuesday night and more information will be provided Wednesday morning.
It's believed that the No. 1 overall pick suffered a fractured collarbone, according to TSN's Bob McKenzie.
The 18-year-old recorded five goals and seven assists in his first 12 NHL games, which was tops among all rookies and second among Oilers behind only Taylor Hall.
