Rollins out 6-9 months with knee injury; new champ to be crowned at 'Survivor Series'
The complexion of WWE's upcoming "Survivor Series" pay-per-view has drastically changed following a major injury to Seth Rollins, the reigning World Heavyweight Champion.
The WWE announced Rollins has been diagnosed with a torn right ACL, MCL, and medial meniscus following a match at a live event Wednesday in Dublin, Ireland.
The 29-year-old will miss the next 6-9 months, therefore vacating the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, according to ESPN's Jonathan Coachman.
A one-night tournament will be held at "Survivor Series" to crown a new titleholder, but specific details - such as the combatants - haven't been announced. It will mark the second time "Survivor Series" has held such a tournament, after the "Deadly Games" from 1998 where Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson captured his first WWE Championship.
Rollins was originally scheduled to defend the gold against Roman Reigns in the "Survivor Series" main event. Rollins won the title at "WrestleMania 31," defeating Reigns and Brock Lesnar after cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase.
"Survivor Series" takes place Nov. 22 from Philips Arena in Atlanta.
