Blues' Allen records 2nd straight shutout
Jake Allen remained one of the league's hottest goalies with a 24-save shutout against the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday.
The blanking marked Allen's third shutout of the season and his second in a row, running his streak to 166 minutes without allowing a goal. He's stopped 96 consecutive shots.
"Shutouts are just an added bonus. I'm just worried about wins right now," he said after the game, according to the Blues' official Twitter account. "If I have one shutout a year, I'm fine with it. If I have 40 wins, that's even better. It's just an added bonus."
With the win, Allen improved his season record to 7-3-0, with a .950 save percentage, 1.53 goals-against average.
Thought to be in a 1A-1B situation with Brian Elliott heading into the season, Allen is making a strong early case for the permanent starting gig, as well as for being one of the NHL's top players at his position.
