Klay Thompson out vs. Nets with back stiffness
Only one Splash Brother will suit up on Saturday.
Golden State Warriors shooting guard Klay Thompson will sit out against the Brooklyn Nets with back stiffness, the team announced.
Thompson admitted to reporters Monday that he has played through some minor back issues this season.
“In retrospect, I probably should have sat out to get it right," Thompson told Monte Poole of CSN Bay Area.
Saturday's game against the lowly Nets provides a relatively safe chance for Thompson to rest. The 1-8 Nets have the fourth-worst plus-minus in the league, while the Warriors are unbeaten at 10-0 while outscoring opponents by 171.
The Warriors are also without shooting guard Leandro Barbosa, who is tending to a family issue in Brazil, so Brandon Rush will start at the two.
The 25-year-old Thompson has been mired in a slight shooting slump to start the season, as he's shooting 38.6 percent from deep and averaging 15.2 points per game. The wonky back, however, might have affected his performance.
"I’ve been dealing with the back stuff, so it was about getting the right kind of work in and now I feel almost 100 percent healthy again. That’s the biggest difference. I’m getting my legs back into my shots," he said Monday.
