Roman Reigns is one victory away from capturing the WWE World Heavyweight Championship for the first time in his young career.

The former Shield enforcer knocked off United States Champion Alberto Del Rio in a semifinal matchup at WWE "Survivor Series" on Sunday night. He'll face either Dean Ambrose or Kevin Owens later in the evening to determine the new World Heavyweight Champion.

It was a gutsy effort by the 30-year-old powerhouse, who survived Del Rio's signature cross armbreaker by reversing the maneuver, and dumping his opponent over the top rope. Del Rio missed a dive off the top rope shortly after, with Reigns landing his finishing spear to secure the 3 count.

Reigns previously defeated Big Show and Cesaro to advance in the tournament.

WWE's original plan was for Reigns to challenge Seth Rollins in the night's main event for the gold, however, Rollins tore his right ACL, MCL, and medial meniscus, forcing the company to vacate the title and create a tournament to name a new champion.
