Mavericks' Parsons suggests he'll play regular minutes come January

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

It's been a frustrating year so far for Dallas Mavericks small forward Chandler Parsons, who has been subjected to a minutes restriction as a result of the knee surgery he underwent this past summer.

However, Parsons has implied his playing limitations may be withdrawn in the new year.

"I think my real season starts in January once I’m full strength and playing my normal minutes," Parsons told Tim McMahon of ESPN.com. "That’s when I think I’ll be able to do those type of things that I was brought here to do and that everybody knows I can do."

Parsons is currently capped at 25 minutes per game, something that can be frustrating for the former Gator as he's occasionally pulled while in a groove.

Parsons is unsurprisingly averaging career lows across the board, but he also hasn't been overly efficient in his limited playing time. Parsons is shooting just 31.3 percent from three, has a player efficiency rating of 11.2, and is making just 35.3 percent of his free-throw attempts.

Parsons told ESPN.com he feels fine physically, while coach Rick Carlisle said he doesn't think Parsons is "anywhere close to being across the finish line, but he’s making great progress."

If Parsons can get back to his pre-surgery form, when he averaged 15.7 points and shot 38 percent from beyond the arc, the Mavericks will have a huge boost to their lineup come 2016.
