Bayern legend predicts Guardiola will be tempted to join Manchester United
The prospect of joining Manchester United might be too attractive for Pep Guardiola to pass up, according to Bayern Munich legend and honourary president Franz Beckenbauer.
With a decision yet to be made about Guardiola's future beyond this season, Beckenbauer believes the Bayern manager will be tempted to join the Red Devils after his contract expires in the summer, replacing under-fire United manager Louis van Gaal.
"Pep is interesting for every top club in the world," Beckenbauer said in an interview with German publication Merkur, as translated by ESPNFC. "That's just normal.
"He can pick his club - and in terms of popularity Manchester United might be the No. 1 worldwide."
Manchester United, however, reportedly removed itself from the Guardiola sweepstakes after backing van Gaal, whose current deal at Old Trafford expires in 2017. Manchester City has also been linked with the former Barcelona boss, and could become the leading candidate if Guardiola ends his trophy-laden reign at Bayern.
