Names are starting to emerge as potential candidates for the San Francisco 49ers head coaching vacancy, which was left open Sunday when the team fired Jim Tomsula after just one season.

Representatives for Chip Kelly, who was fired by the Philadelphia Eagles ahead of the team's season finale, have reached out to the 49ers to express interest in the job, NFL Network's Mike Silver and Ian Rapoport report.

Former Denver Broncos and Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan has also thrown his name into the mix, according to Silver and Rapoport.

Shanahan previously served as the 49ers' offensive coordinator from 1992-94 and interviewed for the team during their last head coaching search. He last coached in the NFL in 2013.
