- Demetrious Johnson has a terrifyingly tight grip on the 125-pound strap. The only champion the division has ever known, "Mighty Mouse" went 2-0 in 2015, submitting Kyoji Horiguchi via armbar at UFC 186, before dominating John Dodson five months later at UFC 191.
- Speaking of Dodson, after two failed bids to dethrone Johnson, "The Magician" is considering a change of scenery. Dodson has expressed interest in moving up to the bantamweight division, where he owns a TKO victory over champion T.J. Dillashaw.
- As far as Johnson's next title challenger, it could come in the form of an Olympic gold medalist. Wrestler extraordinaire Henry Cejudo is steadily climbing the ladder, knocking off fellow top-ranked 125-pounder Jussier "Formiga" da Silva at UFC Fight Night 78 in November.
- After a bout against "Uncle Creepy" Ian McCall fell through in August, Dustin Ortiz made lemons out of lemonade, running roughshod over Willie Gates, McCall's late replacement. Ortiz is looking to build on that momentum at UFC on FOX 18, when he'll square off with the dangerous Wilson Reis.
