The San Jose Earthquakes announced on Wednesday the acquisition of Argentine defender Andres Imperiale out of Costa Rican outfit Deportivo Saprissa.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed and the club is still awaiting the receipt of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate.

"Andres is an experienced player that we think will be a good addition to the team," Earthquakes general manager John Doyle said in a statement. "We have a strong core group of defenders and Andres will fit right in."

Imperiale, 29, joins the Quakes after spending much of his career in Latin America; he has played in Argentine, Costa Rica, Chile, and Bolivia, as well as a short stint in Cyprus. He is described as a central defender who can also be used as a left full-back.
