With a dearth of attacking options at Selhurst Park, Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew is considering luring free-agent striker Emmanuel Adebayor to the Croydon club.
Adebayor, 31, has been out of contract since Tottenham released him in September. He joined the north London outfit in 2012 following an erratic spell with Manchester City.
"Adebayor is a player that is there for somebody and it is a question of ourselves looking at that one and wondering where the right club for him is and whether he is the right player for us," Pardew told reporters, according to The Guardian.
"It's something that is in our mix and we'll have to wait and see. We are trying to bring a striker in - whether permanently or on loan - and myself and Steve (Parish, Palace's chairman) are making a lot of phone calls to try and resolve that."
While the Eagles do possess a depth of wingers and playmakers in Yannick Bolasie, Wilfried Zaha, Jason Puncheon, and Yohan Cabaye, the striker position has become a cause for concern at Selhurst Park, with Pardew opting to play traditional winger Bakary Sako in the No. 9 hole recently.
The strike trio of Connor Wickham, Dwight Gayle, and Marouane Chamakh have failed to impress with only one league goal among them, prompting a desire to recruit a player like Adebayor.
"You want to try and bring in a quality player and so therefore you can't dismiss anyone, or not think about all the strikers that are possibly available," Pardew said.
He added, "(Adebayor) is in that group. Not just for us but many teams in the Premier League to wonder whether that is something you can do a deal with."
Palace currently sits eighth in the table in advance of Saturday's visit to the Etihad to face Manchester City. The Eagles have scored 23 goals in 21 Premier League matches, the fewest of any team in the top flight's top half.
