Celta de Vigo signs Lyon striker Claudio Beauvue
One of the transfer window's more protracted transactions finally came to fruition Saturday as La Liga side Celta de Vigo signed unsettled Lyon striker Claudio Beauvue, the Spanish club announced following its 4-3 defeat of Levante.
Beauvue was in Spain on Saturday and was photographed at the match with Celta sporting director Miguel Montes Torrecilla. The move awaits a medical.
Beauvue joined Les Gones in the summer from Breton minnow Guingamp to compliment Lyon's star striker Alexandre Lacazette. However, a harrowing campaign for the forward prompted his interest in the Spanish club, and a Spanish source told L'Equipe the clubs agreed on a €5-million fee overnight Friday.
Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas admitted earlier in the week that negotiations had commenced despite his interest in keeping Beauvue beyond the transfer window.
One of La Liga's surprise packages this season, Celta has opted for traditional attacking mid Iago Aspas in the No. 9 position in 19 league matches with Theo Bongonda serving as the diminutive Spaniard's deputy, prompting the desire for a conventional striker like Beauvue.
Beauvue, 27, appeared in 19 league matches for Bruno Genesio's lot this season. He collected five goals and two assists playing second fiddle to an out-of-form Lacazette.
