The 21-year-old joins on a temporary deal until the end of the season for the club he scored one goal in four appearances for in 2013. Since then, he has mustered a miserable four goals in 22 outings for West Ham and in loan spells for Luton Town and Blackpool.
The Hammers' youth team graduate could be involved for Colchester's visit of Fleetwood Town on Tuesday.
