Smith's deal at Vicarage Road was terminated by mutual consent on Thursday, and the management at Kingsmeadow quickly swooped in for the Ireland Under-21 international.
"It's tough to leave Watford, but I will always have good memories of my time there," Smith told the AFC Wimbledon website. "I am happy to join this club. Hopefully I can get playing every week and help the club into the play-offs and promotion."
Smith is available for the Wombles' trip to Notts County on Saturday.
