Fantasy Spotlight: A.J. Pollock
Throughout the month of March, theScore examines hitters who represent their team's most intriguing fantasy plays. This edition focuses on Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder A.J. Pollock.
2015 in Review: 673 PA, .315/.367/.498, 111 R, 20 HR, 76 RBI, 39 SB
The Good: Pollock is expected to bat leadoff for a decent Arizona offense, providing him with ample opportunity to rake in runs and stolen bases while maintaining solid HR and RBI totals. He hit just about everywhere he played last season and turned it up in the second half, batting .335 after the break.
The Bad: Moving to leadoff from the No. 2 spot in the order will likely take a bite out of his RBI tally, but it's a minor quibble compared to what should be a boost in runs scored and steals and a few extra plate appearances per month. There isn't much to complain about with Pollock.
Best Comparison: Colorado Rockies OF Charlie Blackmon
What's in Store: Pollock is a good bet to exceed the 111 runs he scored last season, and could also eclipse the 40-steal plateau if he can get on base at the same rate as he did in 2015. He'll play every day, and was solid against both righties and lefties last season, making him a top-flight leadoff option.
Draft Outlook: Pollock is a second-round lock in the majority of drafts, and should be one of the first six outfielders off the board in any format despite the lack of traditional high-end offensive stats like home runs and RBIs.
