Fantasy Spotlight: Neil Walker
Throughout the month of March, theScore examines hitters who represent their team's most intriguing fantasy plays. This edition focuses on New York Mets second baseman Neil Walker.
2015 in Review: 603 PA, .269/.328/.427, 69 R, 16 HR, 71 RBI, 4 SB
The Good: Walker hit 16 home runs in 2015, his third consecutive season hitting at least that many. He should bat second in the Mets' order, behind OF Curtis Granderson and ahead of 3B David Wright and OF Yoenis Cespedes.
The Bad: Despite playing 14 more games in 2015 than he did in 2014, Walker hit seven fewer home runs. His runs, RBI and entire slash line were also down from the previous season. He's leaving PNC Park in Pittsburgh for a slightly more pitcher-friendly park at Citi Field in New York.
Best Comparison: Washington Nationals 2B Daniel Murphy, coincidentally the man he's replacing in New York.
What's in Store: Walker sports a career OBP of .338, and he should be able to get on base with some consistency. Batting ahead of Wright and Cespedes, he could be in line for between 70 and 80 runs. He shouldn't be expected to return to the 20-HR level while at Citi Field.
Draft Outlook: Walker should be considered a reserve in standard, mixed leagues, but he's a mid-tier option in NL-only leagues. More upside will be available later in drafts, but his relatively safe floor is an asset in deeper leagues.
