Grizzlies send Courtney Lee to Hornets in 3-team trade
The Memphis Grizzlies have traded shooting guard Courtney Lee to the Charlotte Hornets, the team confirmed Tuesday.
The Hornets will send point guard Brian Roberts, shooting guard P.J. Hairston, and two second-round picks to Memphis.
Roberts was then flipped to the Miami Heat for center Chris Andersen and two additional second-round picks.
Lee gives the Hornets another wing player in the wake of Michael Kidd-Gilchrist's season-ending shoulder injury. Although he's not a world-class defender like Kidd-Gilchrist, Lee gives the Hornets an influx of shooting: He's averaging 10 points per game while connecting at a 37-percent clip from deep.
The Heat, meanwhile, will shed nearly $3 million in salary by getting rid of Andersen's expiring contract. He's been on the trade block since last summer and Miami is facing strict tax penalties with its burgeoning $90-million payroll.
As for the Grizzlies, they receive four picks in the trade while getting back a second-year prospect in Hairston, who's shown signs of potentially blossoming into a 3-and-D wing.
Hairston's averaging six points and 2.7 rebounds per game while shooting 31.4 percent from deep.
The Heat bid adieu to Andersen, who was a member of their last two NBA title teams, Tuesday night on Twitter.
