Broncos' Talib admits he committed face-mask penalty in Super Bowl on purpose
Denver Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib committed two personal fouls in the first few minutes of the Super Bowl, the second of which saw him violently twist the facemask of Carolina Panthers wide receiver Philly Brown.
Talib showed no remorse for his actions after the game.
"(The face-mask penalty) I just did on purpose, and I just had to show him. It's probably going to be a fine, but, hey, we're world champs," Talib told reporters, according to Brent Schrotenboer of USA TODAY.
Talib pointed out that the penalty didn't mean much in terms of field position.
"My teammates knew what it was," Talib said. "(Brown) was on the 3-yard line. (After the) personal foul, he was on the 1-and-a-half-yard line. So it is what it is."
Talib has a history of transgressions both on and off the field, so it's possible the NFL will determine he's deserving of a suspension for his actions. Much more likely, however, is he will be fined.
And, if commissioner Roger Goodell has his way, the league will soon implement a rule that results in the ejection of any player who commits two personal foul penalties.
