Michael Kidd-Gilchrist out indefinitely with torn labrum in right shoulder
It's deja vu in the worst possible way for Michael Kidd-Gilchrist.
The Charlotte Hornets forward has been ruled out indefinitely after an MRI revealed a torn labrum in his right shoulder, the team announced Thursday.
He will be re-evaluated following the All-Star break, with the Hornets providing no timetable for his recovery.
The injury occurred Wednesday night early in the third quarter of an eventual 117-95 win over the Indiana Pacers at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Kidd-Gilchrist tripped on his way to the basket, with Pacers big man Ian Mahinmi toppling over him.
He left the game immediately and did not return.
It's the exact same injury Kidd-Gilchrist suffered during Charlotte's first preseason game against the Orlando Magic. He just recently returned to action well ahead of schedule on Jan. 29.
The Hornets were 4-2 with him back in the lineup prior to the Pacers game, with the Kentucky alumnus averaging 13.5 points, seven rebounds, and 1.2 assists on 52.6 percent shooting during that span.
Only half a game separates the Detroit Pistons (27-27) from Charlotte (27-26) for the eighth playoff seed in the Eastern Conference.
