Fantasy Spotlight: Corey Seager
Throughout the month of March, theScore examines hitters who represent their team's most intriguing fantasy plays. This edition focuses on Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager.
2015 in Review: 113 PA, .337/.425/.561, 17 R, 4 HR, 17 RBI, 2 SB
The Good: He didn't miss a beat once promoted to the bigs. Seager hit for both power and average while also walking 12.4% of the time. He hit both righties and lefties fairly equally and showed that falling behind in counts wasn't a death knell, batting a sizzling .350 after going down 0-2.
The Bad: Small sample sizes may get people more excited than they should. He only played 27 major-league games. While he tore the cover off the ball in Double-A, he came back down to earth in Triple-A, hitting .278 in 105 games.
Best Comparison: Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Troy Tulowitzki
What's in Store: He will have some struggles, but he probably keeps the Dodgers' starting SS job the whole season. He has hit at every level he's played at and also has shown patience and a great batting eye. A .280 average and 20 home runs are within his reach.
Draft Outlook: He's projected as the fourth-best SS available, and some owners will reach earlier than that. To get Seager, you'll have to grab him in the fifth or sixth round in standard, 12-team mixed league formats. He should go in the second round in NL-only drafts, where he's projected as the No. 1 SS.
His limited sample size in the majors makes it risky to take him so early. It might be wise to hold off, and take a veteran like Jhonny Peralta in the later rounds. His upside is through the roof, though, and that is what you're reaching for if you do take him.
