Shanghai Shenhua signs Obafemi Martins from Seattle
Nigerian forward Obafemi Martins has followed the money, signing with Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua on a multi-year deal.
The 31-year-old, who enlisted with the Seattle Sounders in March 2013, made 72 appearances for the Cascadians, pairing 40 goals with 23 assists alongside U.S. international Clint Dempsey.
Following a popular trend that developed during the January transfer window, Martins becomes the latest high-profile name to make the switch to the Chinese top flight, joining former Newcastle United forward Demba Ba with the sixth-place CSL side.

The 41-time capped Super Eagle accompanies the likes of Jackson Martinez, Stephane Mbia, Ramires, Gervinho, Alex Teixeira, Ezequiel Lavezzi and Fredy Guarin in a league that was once an afterthought, but is now flush with cash courtesy of a $1.25-billion television deal.
Martins' departure signals an opportunity for young American striker Jordan Morris, who signed a senior contract with his hometown club following a trial with Werder Bremen. Morris, 21, will now likely form an attacking tandem with Dempsey.
