Rockets flip Joel Anthony to Sixers

The Houston Rockets have traded center Joel Anthony to the Philadelphia 76ers, the Rockets confirmed.
The Sixers will receive a 2017 second-round pick as compensation for retaining Anthony's contract, according to Jeff Zillgitt of USA TODAY Sports. Anthony has another year left on his contract at $2.5 million.

Anthony was traded earlier on Thursday, moving in a deal that sent Donatas Motiejunas and Marcus Thornton to the Detroit Pistons.
The 33-year-old Canadian is averaging 0.7 points, 1.2 rebounds, and shooting 40 percent from the floor in 13 games. The 76ers will waive JaKarr Sampson in order to make room for Anthony, but that may not last long according to Calkins Media's Tom Moore.
In order to allow the trade to be completed, Anthony will need to briefly become a member of the Sixers before being waived himself - and replaced by Sampson.
