Dipoto takes jab at Angels manager Scioscia

It's been seven months since Jerry Dipoto's unceremonious departure from the Los Angeles Angels following a rift with skipper Mike Scioscia and the now-Seattle Mariners GM couldn't be happier with how things worked out.

Dipoto joined the Angels' division rivals in the Pacific Northwest and spent the winter months retooling the roster in hopes of helping Seattle end a 14-year postseason drought. While he had been reluctant to discuss his fractured relationship with his former manager, Dipoto opened up on Friday when discussing his much improved connection with Mariners skipper Scott Servais.

"I have a manager now in Scott Servais who I do see eye-to-eye with, and we have discussed every move," Dipoto told MLB Network Radio. "We have disagreed on many ideas as we've gone through this offseason, but in a really productive way. And, you know, fair or unfair, that was not always the case with Mike.

"With Scott, we talk about it, we cut it up on the floor, we'll introduce it to the coaches and scouts, and at the end of the day, I think that's healthy. Healthy disagreements are a good thing, and sometimes in Anaheim, as you saw played out nationally multiple times over the four years, it wasn't quite as healthy."

It was reported in late June that Scioscia and Dipoto were at odds as the latter didn't believe the coaching staff was properly using and distributing some of the data that was being handed down to them. The rift became so strong that Dipoto stepped down and Bill Stoneman was named interim GM.

After hearing of Dipoto's comments. Scioscia told Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com that he hasn't spoken to Dipoto since he left.

"I can only speak for myself," Scioscia said. "There are certainly times that you're not going to agree on everything. There were times when the communication was there, maybe times where it wasn't what it could've been. But I'm not looking back."
