Oluwale Bamgbose: 'Creativity is the future of MMA'
Oluwale Bamgbose wants everyone to know that his flashy KO of Daniel Sarafian on the UFC Fight Night 83 prelims was just the beginning.
Employing unorthodox movement to confuse his opponent, Bamgbose exploded with a head kick that Sarafian didn't see coming, and seconds later, the fight was over. If the setup seemed new to most viewers, it's because Bamgbose prides himself on innovation.
"There are some moves that I straight-up created," Bamgbose told MMAjunkie.com. "What I realized is that MMA is like painting - it's an art, it's a part of art. With that being said, you can be creative with it. And once you've mastered so many styles, you can come up with your own. And that's what I've done and I'm ready to show you. I'm ready to show it to every single 185er that faces me, I hope you got your style too. If you fight like everybody else, great, you pretty much have the same game plan, but you don't know what my game plan is, and that's awesome.
"Creativity is the future of MMA. Create your own style. Master the basics, the foundations, but eventually you've got to create your own style. That's what separates you from the rest.”
Bamgbose attributed his first UFC win to his comfort with a plethora of techniques.
"I have a very vast background in several different arts and, like I said in an interview before, I'm one of those traditional martial artists. I like that fancy stuff and I want to apply that to MMA because that's what MMA is for, that's what the UFC is for, for real pure martial artists," Bamgbose said. "Those one-dimensional fighters aren't lasting.
"You better step your game up, bro, spend some time on your craft or you're going to get eaten up."
