NBA Waiver Watch: Wednesday Edition
Here's a look at the top current waiver wire additions in fantasy basketball:
C Nikola Jokic, Nuggets
Jokic has officially surpassed 50 percent ownership in the majority of season-long leagues but just slightly, and the reality is that he should be owned in closer to 85 percent of leagues.
Few bigs offer the set of skills and unique production that the Nuggets' rookie center brings. He's one of the best passers and stealers on a per 36-minute basis for his size, while also adding the typical production in points and rebounds that centers are known for.
Jusuf Nurkic has been back for nearly two months yet still logs less than 15 minutes a game. The offense simply moves better with Jokic facilitating from the elbow, and his team defense continues to improve with time. Roster Jokic before it's too late.
PG Dennis Schroder, Hawks
The Hawks have grown enamored with the raw potential of their young, German import - so much so that it seemed possible that they would trade former All-Star Jeff Teague and hand the reigns to Schroder on a full-time basis.
That change could still come in the upcoming offseason. For now, Schroder's path to a starter's workload is blocked. Still, coach Mike Budenholzer has continued to give Schroder a chance to shine as a featured part of the offense.
He is still owned in less than 50 percent of most season-long leagues, and if he continues to be an effective shooter from the field, he will have plenty of value down the stretch for rosters in need of a boost in scoring.
SG/SF Jared Dudley, Wizards
Dudley has worn many hats this season, including being a wing off the bench, a stretch forward, a starter, and a garbage-time bench player. The trade that brought Markieff Morris to Washington brings a younger player that slots into many of the roles Dudley has filled, but there's something to be said about consistency.
Despite the internal competition for minutes, Dudley has yet to play less than 26 minutes a night in the four games since the All-Star break. He will begin to lose touches to Morris once the new acquisition gets up to speed, but until then, Dudley is a valuable fill-in that is eligible at both wing positions.
PF/C Kris Humphries, Suns
Humphries was owned in less than 25 percent of leagues prior to his deadline trade to the Suns. No longer buried on the Wizards' bench, Humphries now has a chance to put up empty-calorie stats for an awful team.
His career per 36 numbers have always flirted with a double-double, so teams in need of rebounding, especially in leagues that take into account high field-goal percentages, could benefit by adding the journeyman.
