Counterattack - Waiters Ready to Shut Haters
Here are the top contrarian options for Thursday, January 25's six-game slate:
SG Dion Waiters, Thunder (at Pelicans)
Moving back to the bench with SG Andre Roberson returning to the starting lineup, Waiters poured in his first double-digit scoring performance on Wednesday night since Feburary 8 against the Suns.
He was hot against the Mavericks on Monday, shooting 5-for-8 from the field and a sensational 4-for-6 from beyond the arc.
He doesn't fill the statsheet in secondary statistics, but has value in the points column. If his hot shooting carries over into Tuesday's matchup, he's a great option to light up the Pelicans ghastly defense.
PG Brandon Jennings, Magic (vs. Warriors)
Jennings is fitting in nicely with the Magic, and is on the brink of stealing the starting gig at PG from Elfrid Payton.
Despite a dismal six points in 11 minutes against the 76ers, Jennings has averaged 15 points and 5.5 assists in two games - which immediately exceeds expectations. Expect him to be used heavily by the Magic against the Warriors and possess an awfully low ownership.
SF Gordon Hayward, Jazz (vs. Spurs)
Hayward has caught fire post All-Star break, registering three 20-plus point games in four outings. In his two most recent games, he's shot a phenomenal 71.4% 3-point percentage and 55 from the field, surpassing his modest cost.
Despite his superb shooting, Hayward, like most mid-tier options, will be heavily faded against the daunting Spurs defense. However, with SF Kawhi Leonard playing less than 100 percent healthy, Hayward could exploit the only weakness of the reigning Defensive Player of the Year.
PF Aaron Gordon, Magic (vs. Warriors)
Though it's unlikely 'Air Gordon' will be throwing down dunks over Warriors' Draymond Green, he has the ability to supply DFSers with a viable return at home on Thursday night.
With Tobias Harris now sporting a Pistons jersey, Gordon has seen an uptick in field goal attempts, registering 11 and 10 over his last two games, resulting in double-digit scoring.
The Warriors allow the second-lowest field-goal percentage (43.3%) and will likely rest Green in the fourth quarter if they have a big lead, which results in Gordon receiving plenty of opportunities against Golden State's small-ball lineup.
C Mason Plumlee, Trail Blazers (vs. Rockets)
With 14 double-doubles on the season, Plumlee has season averages of 9 points and 7.7 rebounds, solidifying himself as Portland's top option at center.
He won't have it easy against Rockets' big Dwight Howard, but with C.J. McCollum and Damian Lillard posting 30-plus points in Portland's last two games, Plumlee will be left largely unowned due to a lack of opportunities to register points.
With 22 rebounds in his past two outings and an adequate price tag, he's the rare contrarian play DFS players can be rostered in both cash games and GPPs.
